institutions within the Parish, were 2,882, and were 95 above
the corrected decennial average (2,787). Of these deaths
2,254 belong to the Town sub-district, and 628 to Brompton.
The death-rate, which in the preceding three years had been
14.6, 17.8and 18.4 respectively, was 17.2 per 1,000, being 0.5
above the decennial average (l6.7): it was 3.4 below the rate in
the Metropolis as a whole (20.6), this being 0.l above the
decennial average (20.5). The rate in the Town sub-district
was 19.0, that in Brompton being 134; against 20.5 and 13.0
respectively in 1891. The rate in the male sex was 20.9, that
in the female sex being 14.9; against 22.5 and 15.8, in 1891.
In the Parish, as a whole, there was one death to 57.8 persons
living, the proportion in 1891 having been one to 55.3.
The deaths of males were 1,370, out of a total of 65,800
persons of that sex, or one in 47.7; against one in 44.5 in 1891.
Of 100,900 females 1,504 died, or one in 66.4; against one
in 63.4 in 1891. The deaths in the first and fourth or colder
quarters (1,620) exceeded those in the second and third or
warmer quarters (1,262) by 358. In the preceding three
years consecutively, the difference in favour of the warmer
quarters was 74, 293, and 288.
LNFANTILE MORTALITY.
The deaths of children under five years of age always
bear a high ratio to total deaths. In 1892 these deaths were
972, (against 789, 1,095, and 968 in the preceding three years),
the corrected decennial average being 1,040. These 972 deaths
were equivalent to 33.7 percent. on total deaths, and to 264
percent. on births registered: the equivalent percentages for
the whole Metropolis were 39.4 and 26.3. The deaths under
one year were 587, against 489, 651, and 633 in the preceding
three years, the corrected decennial average being 593.
These 587 deaths were equivalent to 20.4 percent. on total
deaths, and to 15.7 percent. on births registered: the
equivalent percentages for the whole Metropolis were 23.2
and 15.5.
