The Hospital Accommodation at the disposal of the Managers, with distribution of beds to the various diseases, was stated in the previous report of the Chairman to be as follows:—

In the Chairman's present report the total number of available
beds is given as 2,311, but the Medical Superintendents consider
that the Hospitals can provide properly for only 2,110 patients. The
beds at the Western Hospital are 224 nominally, but three wards for
46 beds are temporarily occupied by the staff pending the enlargement
of the hospital, so that the actual accommodation seems to be
165 beds only.
Clinical Instruction.—All of the Town Hospitals of the Board
are now available for clinical instruction, " a certificated course of
study at a Fever Hospital being now insisted upon by the Conjoint
Board of the Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons, as part
of the five years' curriculum" of every medical student. The
Managers, I may add, are contemplating arrangements for making
the Hospital Ships available for clinical instruction in Small-pox.
Reference is made to proposed improvements of certain
hospitals. The Managers contemplate the erection of a permanent
administrative block at the North Western Hospitail at a cost of
£25,500, irrespective of the enlargement of the laundry, &c., at an
estimated cost of £2,500. The Chairman observes that the temporary
nature of the building at this hospital "has for many years past
been a source of continual expense and anxiety." Plans for the
