No knowledge is available as to the extent to which use is made of increased
facilities now provided in National Radium Centres and no local investigations
have been undertaken in pursuance of the suggestions contained in the Ministry's
circulars of previous years. Investigations are not made into cancer deaths.
Maternal Mortality.—The number of deaths from Puerperal Sepsis was nil,
and from other accidents and diseases of pregnancy one, making a total of one
maternal death compared with three in 1937. The maternal death rate per 1,000
births was 0.47 as against 1.35 in 1937. In the last two years there have not been
any deaths from Puerperal Sepsis.
