Artificial Sunlight Clinic. This Clinic was opened in October, 1927. The
total number of patients treated during the year, including 79 whose course of
treatment was not completed at the end of 1930, was 437. The total number of
treatments given was 9,976. Of these, 7,370 were by carbon arc, 2,215 by mercury
vapour lamp, and 391 by radiant heat lamp.
The clinic is under the medical supervision of Dr. J. E. A. Lynham, who has
furnished the following report on the year's work:—
" The number of patients referred for treatment was larger, the increase
being mostly in the class of patient who was suffering from general debility.
A considerable number of these responded rapidly to treatment, but in many
instances improvement was slow, and it was found necessary to continue
treatment over a prolonged period.
There was also a greater number of new cases of rickets than in previous
years. A majority of the patients responded extremely well, and many
were rapidly cured, but there have been a few who proved refractory.
Where bone deformities were seen the children were invariably referred
to the remedial clinic of the Invalid Children's Aid Association.
