Council's Houses.— Between 1919 and 1929 the Council developed a housing
estate of 2,186 houses, now known as the Page Estate. In December, 1931, the
Council decided to purchase a further estate, now known as the Middle Park Estate,
which would provide for approximately another 2,200 houses. In July, 1931, the
erection of 400 houses on the first section of this estate was approved by the Council
and subsequently the approval of the Ministry of Health and the London County
Council was obtained. Of these 400 houses it was decided that 320 should be of
the non-parlour type and 80 of the parlour type house, both types having three
bedrooms. The houses will be erected in blocks of 2, 4, 6, and 8, and the average
estimated cost is £380 for the non-parlour type, and £420 for the parlour type. A
children's playing field, measuring nearly 4 acres, is to be formed on the Page
Estate.
