All milk premises are inspected at frequent intervals in order to ensure that
the provisions of the various Regulations are being carried out. One applicant
for registration as a purveyor of milk was refused, the sanitary condition of his
premises being such that the public health was likely to be endangered if the applicant
were enabled to sell milk.
The Milk and Dairies Order, 1926, requires that the bottling of milk should
be carried out on registered premises. In 1929 an active campaign against filling
bottles in the street was carried out, and as a result thirteen summonses were issued
for breaches of the Order. There was considerable improvement in this respect
in 1930, and it was only necessary to institute proceedings in one case, in which
the magistrate imposed a fine of £2.
Under the Milk (Special Designations) Order, 1923, the Council are authorised
to grant licences to persons other than a producer to sell milk under special designations.
Each licence automatically terminates on the last day of the year in
which it is issued. In tabular form is shown below certain information relating
to this Order:—

Three samples of Pasteurised milk were bacteriologically examined during the
year and the results of the examinations are shown below:—

Samples of dried milk and condensed milk were taken under the appropriate
Regulations, and in each instance it was found that the Regulations were being
complied with.
