Infantile Mortality.—The number of deaths of infants under one year of age
was 91, compared with 144 in 1929, and 114 in 1928. The rate of infant mortality
resulting from these deaths (deaths under one year per 1,000 births) was 42, compared
with 62 in 1929, and 50 in 1928. The rate this year equals the lowest infantile
mortality rate ever recorded in the Borough, viz., in 1927. According to a return
published by the Registrar General for the 53 weeks ending 3rd January, 1931,
Woolwich had a lower infantile mortality rate (41) than everyother Metropolitan
Borough with the exception of Chelsea, which it equals. The rate for the administrative
County of London was 59, and England and Wales, 60.
The following Table, No. 20, shows the distribution of infantile mortality
throughout the year calculated on a varying year basis.
