shortens the period of illness, limits its severity and diminishes
the case mortality rate. The Ministry of Health approved
the Council's proposal for the supply of serum in qualified
cases for an experimental period of one year. Owing to the
short time coming within the present year it is not possible
to report on this service now.
ERYSIPELAS, MALARIA AND DYSENTERY.
The number of notifications of Erysipelas was 80, compared
with 89 in 1928. Five cases of Malaria were notified
compared with 12 in 1928. No cases of "therapeutic"
malaria were notified, and no notifications were received
with respect to Dysentery.
PUERPERAL FEVER AND PUERPERAL PYREXIA.
Fifty-three notifications were received, compared with
48 in 1928. Fourteen women were notified as suffering
from Puerperal Fever and 39 from Puerperal Pyrexia. In
one case the original diagnosis of Puerperal Pyrexia was
altered to Puerperal Fever. In the following table is shown,
according to diagnosis, the place of confinement in each of
these cases :—
