Nursing. Nursing assistance is provided by the Council
for cases of Pneumonia and 67 cases were nursed during the
year, 1,010 visits being paid by the nurses of the local Nursing
Associations. In all cases the nurse takes the instructions
of the medical practitioner in attendance. The total cost of
this service to the Council was £63 2s. 6d.
Anti-Pneumococcal Serum. In November the Council
resolved to provide, free of charge, anti-pneumococcal serum
for the treatment of persons suffering from Pneumonia,
where the medical practitioner in attendance considered this
treatment suitable. The treatment of lobar pneumonia by
this means is a recognised form of treatment which is being
used in an increasing amount in this country and in America,
mainly however in hospital practice. In suitable cases it
