CAUSES OF DEATH.
Table No. 12 shews that there were 211 deaths from
heart disease, 210 from cancer, 148 from pulmonary tuberculosis,
114 from bronchitis, 96 from cerebral haemorrhage,
94 from pneumonia, and 45 from influenza. 71 per cent. of
all deaths occurred in persons over 45 years of age.
Tuberculosis and Infectious Fevers. These are referred
to in the section dealing with the notifiable infectious diseases.
Respiratory Diseases. The following Table, No. 14,
shews the number of deaths each year since 1923 from respiratory
diseases, the annual death rate, the number of deaths
under 5 years, and the percentage of deaths occurring in
children under 5 years of age.

Heart Disease. The deaths from heart disease, which
numbered 191 in 1926, numbered 211 in 1927. In that
year, all except 18 were in persons over 45 years of age.
