by the Tuberculosis Officer. It also reviews the economic
circumstances of the patients and forwards reports to the
London County Council on each case recommended for institutional
treatment, suggesting what the assessment per

Under their Grancher Scheme, eleven children were
boarded out. These children are non-tuberculous children
who are living in infected homes and who are placed in carefully
selected homes in better surroundings. At the end of
the year, three children were still away from home.
These activities mean money, as the only expenditure
of the Committee which is rate assisted is the provision of
secretarial assistance and stationery, and as there is a paucity
of Woolwich organisations able to help it is necessary for the
Care Committee to obtain voluntary funds. During the year,
from various sources, the sum of £285 9s. 8d. was raised for
the Care Fund, the total expenditure being £195 l1s. 9d.
The Committee meets four times a year but it operates
by means of Sub-Committees which meet periodically. The
General Purposes and Assessment Sub-Committee meets once
a week, and the Finance and Grancher Sub-Committees
meet when required. During the year the Committee dealt
with 558 cases.
