Table No. 21 shows that the death rate under 4 weeks was
27, an increase of two on that of the previous year, but well
below the average of the preceding twenty years. The chief
causes of death in this age period were:—Premature birth,
26; Congenital malformation, 11; Debility, 9; Atelectasis,
6 ; injury at birth, 6.
On the next three pages are three Tables which classify in
various ways the infant mortality figures of the Borough;
while Table No. 25, which follows, shows the various rates for
stated groups of diseases presented in a comparable form
with the rates for 1923 and the preceding five-yearly period:—
