Illegitimate Deaths. The number of deaths amongs
illegitimate infants was 11. A comparison of the infantile
mortality rates of legitimate and illegitimate infants shows
that the rate for legitimate was 62 and for illegitimate" 149.
Causes of Death. The chief causes of death were as follows :
Premature Birth and Debility, 59 ; Pneumonia, 25 ; Bronchitis,
15 ; Diarrhoea, 10. Six deaths occurred from Measles and
7 from Whooping Cough. In 1923 the corresponding figures
were as follows :—Pneumonia, 13; Bronchitis, 2, and Diarrhoea,
8. The increase in the rate, from 43 to 65, was in the main,
due to Whooping Cough, Measles, and Respiratory diseases.
Table No. 25 shows in detail a comparison of the rates of
1923 and 1924.
The following Table, No. 21, has been constructed to show
in detail the infant mortality rates under 4 weeks and under
one year, each year since 1905 :—
