MARRIAGES.
There were 1,097 marriages (1,181 in 1923). The marriage
rate was 15.7, as compared with 17.5, 17.2, 16.5 and 16.9 in
the four preceding years.
DEATHS.
Table No. 5 shows the gross deaths, the nett deaths and
the death rates, each year since 1920, and shows how the nett
death figures are obtained.
The nett deaths were 1,543 and the nett death rate 11.0.
In 1923 the corresponding rate was 9.9. The death rate, 110,
is the second lowest among the metropolitan boroughs, the
death rate for Lewisham being 10.4.
In 1924 the death rate for England and Wales was 12.2,
for London 12.1, and the mean death rate for the 105 Great
Towns was 12.3.
The death rates for each registration district each year since
1920 are shown in the following Table No. 10:—

The seasonal mortality in the four quarters of the year was
as follows:—First quarter, 15.1; second quarter, 10.5; third
quarter, 7.7 ; fourth quarter, 10.7.
