Housing in the Borough. The housing conditions of the
Borough have somewhat improved since last year, but they
are still far from satisfactory.
Houses are again being built in increasing numbers by
private enterprise, particularly in Eltham. During the year
120 were built, compared with 62 in 1923, 30 in 1922, and 10
in 1921. The Council's new housing scheme progresses slowly.
At the end of 1924, 504 houses had been built and occupied
and an additional 104 were in course of erection. The total
number of new houses built during the year was 230 and 4
houses were demolished, leaving a nett increase of 226.
Housing Survey. The house-to-house inspection was continued
on the same lines as last year and records were kept
in accordance with the provisions of the Housing (Inspection
of District) Regulations, 1910. During the year 3,453 houses
were inspected and recorded by the Inspectors engaged in
this work, compared with 3,192 in the previous year. The
results of the survey were periodically reported to the Public
Health Committee. The summarised results of the complete
year are as follows:—
