on steadily during the year, and the work, as far as it goes,
shows that the statistics for the rest of the Borough will
have to be modified in a similar manner, as happened in
the case of Eltham in 1920. On this basis it can be assumed
that the number of cases of tuberculosis living at the end
of the year does not exceed 2,300. This correction which
was rendered possible by the amalgamation of all tuberculosis
activities in the area is going on apace and by the summer
of 1922 it is hoped that the correct figure will be obtained.
Deaths. The following Table No. 40 shows the number
of deaths from tuberculosis, the total deaths and death rates
each year since 1917. It will be observed that the total
number of deaths from tuberculosis was greater by 19 than
in 1920, there being 7 more deaths from pulmonary forms
and 12 from non-pulmonary forms. The rise in the death
rate is due in some measure to these additional deaths and
in some measure also to the fact that the population used
for calculating the rates for 1921 was smaller than that used
in 1920
