From the above Table and from Table No. 2, we find that
the number of children under 2 years, attacked per 1,000
births was 92 in the Borough, 97 in Woolwich, 97 in West
Plumstead, 94 in East Plumstead and 73 in Eltham. Density
of population would appear, therefore, to be a factor in
increasing the tendency to diarrhoea, and probably also
low.lying areas.
Deaths. During 1921, 72 deaths were certified as due to
diarrhceal diseases. Of these, 56 occurred in children under
1 year, 4 in children between 1—2 years, 6 in children from
2—15 years and 6 amongst adults, 45 years and upwards.
Out of the 56 deaths under 1 year in 24 instances the
first intimation received by me of the presence of the
disease was the death certificate, and in 14 other instances,
