FACTORIES, WORKSHOPS, AND WORKPLACES.
43. There were, at the close of the year, 201 (200 in
1913), workshops and workplaces on the register. 402 inspections
were made, and 63 notices served and complied
with. 96 inspections of factories were made regarding
sanitary accommodation, and 15 notices served and complied
with. 490 inspections of homeworkers' premises were made
and 14 notices sent and attended to. Table XVc. gives full
particulars of the work done under Sec. 107, Factory Act.
Miss Middlebrooke devoted a large amount of her time
to the inspection of workshops, factories, and houses where
women are employed; 25 new workrooms were measured up
and put on the register. Seven matters under the Factory
Act were reported to H.M. Inspector, including three failures
to affix abstracts of the Factory Act.
BAKEHOUSES.
'44. The number of factory bakehouses is 9, and of
workshop bakehouses in use is 40, 14 of the latter being
underground. They were all inspected twice. I inspected
most of them personally, and found them generally satisfactory.
11 certified underground bakehouses are not in use.
ICE-CREAM SHOPS.
45. 83 Ice-cream shops were on the register at the
close of the year, compared with 89, 89, and 82, in the
three previous years. 5 were added and 4 removed during
the year. There were 132 inspections made, and 9 notices
