Ward, and 2 in Eltham. There were three prosecutions in
1909, which were recorded in full in the Annual Report for
that year.
3. Defective and foul storage cisterns were found and
remedied at 93 houses, compared with 34, 55, and 33, in the
three preceding years. At 10 houses the supply was found
insufficient or temporarily cut off, and the necessary steps
taken for obtaining a proper supply.
FOOD AND DRUGS ACT.
4. 491 samples were submitted to the Public Analyst,
and 36, or 7.3 per cent., were found to be adulterated,
compared with 3.4, 3.3, 4.6, 2.7, and 5.6, in the five
preceding years, and 8.4 in the Metropolis in 1912. The
percentage of adulteration in the previous five years averaged
3.9. The average of the five years 1904-08 was 6.3.
88 of the samples taken were informal. 4 of these were
found to be adulterated.
5. Proceedings were taken in 20 cases; fines were inflicted
in 12. In 3 there was proof of warranty; one was adjourned
sine die; in 2 costs were given against the defendant;
and 2 were dismissed.
6. A total of £20 7s. 6d. was imposed in fines, and
£11 18s. 0d. in costs.
7. 309 of the samples were fresh milk. 30 of these, or
9.7 per cent. were adulterated, compared with 3.7, 4.8, 7.2,
3.5, and 7.9, in the five preceding years.
