Dairies, cowsheds, and Milkshops.
12. On January 1st, 1910, there were 128 milkshops on
the register; 24 were added, and 15 removed during the
year, leaving a total of 137 on the register at the close of
1910. There were 205 inspections made, and 10 notices
served.
Owing to the steps taken by the Health Department
requiring persons not to sell milk in unsuitable general
shops, the number of milkshops was reduced from 196 to 128
in the five years 1905-9.
As it was found that several persons were selling milk
without being registered, an advertisement was issued in
the local newspapers in April, 1909, calling attention to
the illegality of selling milk without being registered.
The following abstract of regulations was drawn up;
this is left at every milkshop:—
Abstract of Regulations as to Milk sold by Retail.
(1) Every purveyor of milk carrying on his trade in
the Metropolitan Borough of Woolwich, must be
registered by the Council of the said Borough.
Application for registration must be upon the form
provided for the purpose, which can be obtained
from the Public Health Department, Town Hall,
Woolwich.
(2) The Council may remove from the register, or may
refuse to enter therein, the name of any person
carrying on, or proposing to carry on, the trade
of a dairyman or purveyor of milk upon premises
which are in their opinion for any reason unsuitable
for the sale of milk.
