Town Hall,
Woolwich,
January 12th, 1901.
To the Mayor, Aldermen, and Councillors of the Borough of
Woolwich.
Gentlemen,
I have the honour to submit my report upon the sanitary
condition of the Parish of Woolwich during the year 1900.
Mortality There have been 937 deaths during the year; of
this number 403 occurred in the *Dockyard SubDistrict,
and 534 in the Arsenal Sub-District.
The gross death-rate for the year, estimated upon a population
of 41,600 is 22.5 per thousand.
Of these deaths 253 took place in various medical institutions
(Table VI.) outside the district; in the appended statistical
tables they have, however, been allotted to their proper subdistricts,
and calculated as if taking place within the parish of
Woolwich. Thirty deaths occurring within the district were of
persons not rightly belonging to Woolwich ; if these be deducted
from the total deaths the correct number of deaths occurring in
Woolwich during the twelve months ending the 31st December,
1900, will be obtained, viz., 907.
Death Rate. The net death-rate is therefore 21.8 per thousand.
* The Registration sub-districts of Woolwich Dockyard and Woolwich
Arsenal were combined on the 1st April, 1900. The whole parish is now
known as Woolwich Sub-District for Registration purposes.
