There were 421 births in West and 1573 in East Plumstead.
4. Deaths.—The death rate was 15'5 compared with 140
and 162 in the two preceding years.
This rate and all other rates given in the report are, unless
otherwise mentioned, corrected for deaths in Public Institutions,
i.e., deaths of non-parishioners occurring in institutions in the
Parish are excluded, and deaths of parishioners in outlying
institutions are included.
There were 265 deaths in West and 793 in East Plumstead.
The highest number of deaths occurred in the first quarter,
January to March, and the lowest number in the fourth quarter.
5. Meteorology.—The weather was, on the whole, mild in
the winter months, but the temperature of the summer months
was above the average. As regards the effect of weather on
mortality it was an average year.
6. Infant Mortality.—The number of deaths under one year
per 1,000 births was 129, compared with 156 and 124 in the
two preceding years. Of the 261 deaths under one year 69
occurred in the first quarter, 48 in the second, 93 in the third,
and 49 in the fourth.
7. The infant mortality was 99 in West Plumstead, and 138 in East.
