ANNUAL REPORT
on the
HEALTH OP PLUMSTEAD,
foe 1900.
To the Mayor, Alderman ancl Councillors of the Metropolitan
Borough of Woolwich.
Your Woeship and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present to you my report on the
health of Plumstead Parish during the past year.
A.—-Vital Statistics.
1. Population.—I have estimated the population on the basis
of the number of occupied houses, as I did last year, assuming
that the number of persons to a house remains the same as at
the Census of 1896, viz : 6.14. The number of occupied houses
on June 30th, was 11,091, which gives a population of 68,098,
and all rates given in this report are calculated on this population
unless otherwise stated. The estimated increase of population
is 2843.
2. There were in June 1900, 3,440 houses in the West Rate
Collector's district, and 7,651 in the East district, shewing increases
of 126 and 337 respectively during the year.
3. Births.—The birth rate was 29.3 compared with 30.2 in
1899; this is the lowest rate yet recorded in Plumstead, though
the number of births is the highest on record. The natural
increase of the population was 936, and the estimated increase
2843, which infers an immigration from other districts of 1907
persons.
