SWIMMING AND SUPPER BATHS.
Three Swimming Baths are provided by the Council in the Borough.
During the year the number of swims amounted to 215,219, comprising
57,717 adults and 157,502 children.
The water is subjected to a continuous chlorination and filtration
process, passing through the filters once every 3½-hours. Ten samples
were taken during the year for bacteriological and chemical analysis.
Four were found to be unsatisfactory: one by reason of low pH value and
three revealing a low free chlorine content.
The number of Slipper Baths taken during the year at the four
Council establishments was 223,809, which included 7,326 by old age
pensioners and 114. by unemployed persons, who were admitted free of
charge.
The total number of persons admitted to all sections of the Baths
and Washhouses Department, including the Laundry, was 479,751.
