Slum Clearance.—During the year the Council made Compulsory Purchase
Orders as follows :—

An Inquiry was held by the Ministry of Health and all the Orders were
confirmed without modification.
The L.C.C. also passed Clearance Order resolutions in respect to the
following areas within the Borough:—

Overcrowding.—The overcrowding survey in 1935 revealed the fact that
7,632 families were overcrowded.
The number of cases to date not included in the above total is 456.
From May, 1936 to the end of December, 1938, 1,832 certificates of overcrowding
(Orange Forms) had been sent to the L.C.C. Of this number the
L.C.C. have rehoused 457 families, 78 within the Borough and 379 outside.
