Rooms Disinfected.
5,705 rooms were disinfected during the year, 968 having been occupied by
persons suffering from consumption, and 3,680 by persons suffering from other
notifiable diseases. 1,057 rooms which were in a verminous condition, were
fumigated with sulphur and the papers stripped from the walls.
Scabies.
A large number of patients attend at the London Hospital suffering from
Scabies, for whom sulphur baths are provided.
The bed and bedding of 535 patients were disinfected during the year,
to obviate as far as possible re-infection after treatment. In 64 instances it was
found impossible to verify the names and addresses given.
Mortuary and Coroner's Court.
The number of bodies deposited in the Mortuary during the year was 518.
Of these, 462 were removed by the Coroner, 47 by the Police, 5 at the request of
friends, and 4 on my instructions. Four of the bodies were persons who had died
from infectious diseases, and were placed in the infectious mortuary.
72 bodies were placed in the Jewish part of the Mortuary, and 30 were watched
in accordance with the Jewish custom.
509 Inquests were held in the Coroner's Court, and 68 post-mortem examinations
were made.
