HOLIDAY HOME,
Towards the end of 1947 the Council considered the possibility of
adapting Effingham House, Copthorne, for use as a Holiday Home, and
application was made to the Minister of Health for his sanction to the
appropriation of this property from Maternity and Child Welfare purposes
under the provisions of Section 4 of the Physical Training and Recreation
Act, 1937. Formal consent was given by the Minister on 22nd April, 1948.
The Home is available to residents of Shoreditch and members of the
Old People's Clubs, all applications being considered by a special Subcommittee.
A scale of charges for holidays has been fixed, but in
certain cases where family circumstances are suoh as to create hardship
if the charge is made in accordance with the scale, the Sub-Committee may
reduce the charge.
The numbers of persons who attended for holidays during the last six
months of the year are as follows:-
