MILK (SPECIAL DESIGNATIONS) ORDER, 1936
During the year 56 applications were received for the sale of milk under these
regulations in the borough. The applications were investigated and all were found
to be satisfactory. 40 Dealers' Licences and 5 supplementary licences were issued
in respect of the sale of pasteurised milk and 9 Dealers' and 2 supplementary licences
in respect of tuberculin-tested milk.
An application was received for a licence to pasteurise milk but on investigation
it was found that the pasteurising plant was not satisfactory, and the licence was not
issued.
Sixty-five samples of milk were taken during 1937, compared with 60 in 1936.
Of the 65 samples, 4 did not comply with the standard laid down by the order.
The result of the examination of these is given in the following table:—

Of the 4 samples which did not comply with the order, 2 were taken from a
dairyman in the Borough, and 2 from wholesalers outside Shoreditch who were
delivering milk in this district. A warning was issued to the offending Shoreditch
dairyman, and in the other cases details were furnished to the district concerned.
Of the remaining 61 samples, four were of tuberculin-tested milk and the
remainder were of pasteurised milk. All the samples of tuberculin tested milk complied
with the methylene blue test and the b. coli test as laid down in the Order. Of
the 57 samples of pasteurised milk which complied with the prescribed standards 6
showed b. coli in 1/10 c.c. The total counts of these 6 samples are shown in the following
table:—
