The number of inspections of premises at which food is prepared or sold,
made by each Inspector during the year, is shown in the Table on page 46.
The following were surrendered or seized and destroyed as unfit for the
food of man: 3 cwts. 42 lbs. Apples; 3 cwts. Bananas; 28 lbs. Dog Fish; 500
tins fillets of Anchovy; 14 cwts. Grapes; 32 lbs. tinned Ham; 2 cwts. Pears;
1 cwt. Potatoes and 4 cwts. Tomatoes.
Meat.
The number of butchers' shops under inspection during the year was 73
and the number of visits of inspection was 115.
General observation was kept of all meat stalls where butchers' meat was
exposed for sale. Three warning letters were sent in respect of minor infringements
of the Public Health (Meat) Regulations, 1924.
Slaughter Houses.
There are now no slaughter-houses in the Borough.
The Public Health (Prevention of Tuberculosis) Regulations, 1925.
These Regulations prohibit a person suffering from Tuberculosis, who
is in an infectious condition, from following any employment or occupation
in connection with a dairy which would involve the milking of cows, the
treatment of milk, or the handling of vessels used for containing milk.
It was not necessary for these reasons to prohibit any person from following
his occupation in a dairy during the year under consideration.
Cowhouses.
There are two licensed cowhouses in this Borough, viz.: —
26, Nile Street; David Llewellyn Walters 14 cows.
76, St. John's Road; W. J. G. Harris 14 cows.
The sanitary condition of both these cowhouses is satisfactory, but in all
the circumstances of the milk trade of to-day, the presence of cowhouses in
the midst of a densely crowded city appears to be an anachronism in favour
of which there is very little to be said.
Twenty visits of inspection were paid to these cowhouses during the year.
cookshops and eating houses.
Including the kitchens of public houses where food is prepared for
customers, the number of these under inspection during the year was 228, and
some 516 visits were made in connection with them. Some 54 sanitary
notices were served, mainly for cleansing.
Fried Fish Shops.
Some 57 were under inspection and 179 visits were made to them. 23
sanitary notices were served, mainly for cleansing.
