It is hoped that at some time in the not too distant future it may be possible for the question of home visiting to be fully considered in relation to the duties and adequacy of the staff as a whole.

It will be noted that the total attendances of mothers and children at the
Centres was 50,567. This is a considerable increase on the total for the
previous years, and is the highest total number of attendances ever recorded.
Again, however, it is necessary to utter the warning that attendances at
Centres, however frequent, cannot be accepted as a satisfactory alternative
to home visiting.

At the end of the year the weekly programme of Welfare Centres was as
