IV.—SANITARY WORK.
DISTRICT INSPECTORS.

The total number of Intimations served as to insanitary conditions was 5,586. The number served by each Sanitary Inspector was as follows: —

In connection with the Inspectors' sanitary work, some 1,596 letters
were written to owners and others.
Statutory Notices under the Public Health (London) Act, 1891, were
served by order of the Sanitary Authority upon the parties responsible for
the abatement of nuisances in 859 instances.
For non-compliance with the requirements of the Sanitary Authority,
proceedings were taken before the Magistrates in 29 instances. A list of
Legal Proceedings will be found on pages 69 and 71.
The following tables (pages 50 and 51), prepared by the Senior Sanitary
Inspector, summarize the visits and work of the Sanitary Inspectors during
1931. The work done in compliance with the provisions of the Factory and
Workshops Act, 1901, and in connection with the drains and sanitary
arrangements of new buildings is included: —
