BAKEHOUSES.
The number of bakehouses on the register at the beginning of the year
was 61. Two were removed, and the number on the register at the end of the year
was 59.
Of the bakehouses on the register at the end of the year the number underground
was 35 and the number of factory bakehouses was 35.
In connection with bakehouses the Sanitary Inspectors paid 200 visits of
inspection. Intimation notices were served in 26 instances.
SALE OF FOOD AND DRUGS ACTS.
The reports of the Public Analyst, Mr. H. G. Harrison, M.A., show that 1,076
samples were submitted to him during the year. This number is at the rate ot
9'9 per 1,000 inhabitants, and is above the average for recent years.

11 prunes, 10 sweetmeats, 10 gin, 8 candied peel, 8 pepper (1 informal), 6 rum, 6 brawn,
6 corned beef, 5 coffee, 5 jam, 5 ground rice, 5 ammoniated tincture of quinine,
4 brandy, 4 custard powder, 4 tapioca, 4 weak tincture of iodine, 3 tinned fish, 3 salmon
and shrimp paste, 3 oil of eucalyptus, 3 lemonade powder, 3 ground almonds,
3 mixed fruits, 3 glycerine, 3 mincemeat, 3 non-alcoholic wine, 2 dried milk (informal),
2 camphorated oil, 2 compound liquorice powder, 2 condensed milk (sweetened),
