With 30 exceptions the insanitary conditions were rectified upon the receipt of
official intimations from the Sanitary Inspectors. The exceptions were brought under
the notice of the Health Committee and statutory notices under the Public Health
(Lond.) Act 1891 were served upon the parties responsible. The work was, however,
in all these cases carried out without it being necessary to appeal to a Magistrate.
With respect to home work 42 lists of out-workers were received from employers, 17
in the first half year and 25 in the second, referring to 791 out-workers. On examination
it was found that 601 were not resident in Shoreditch. Their addresses were duly
forwarded to the Authorities of the Sanitary Districts to which they belonged. Communications
were received from other Sanitary Authorities relative to some 680 outworker's,
the great majority of whom resided in the Borough. In the cases of the
remainder, 36 in number, their addresses were forwarded to the Sanitary Authorities of
the districts- in which they were situate. Alogether some 651 visits of inspection were
paid in Connection with places where home work was done.

The following table will serve to convey an idea of the distribution of the outworkers in the several classes of home work according to the lists sent in during the year:
