brought to light through the visits of the Sanitary Inspectors, were all dealt with, and
the Factory Inspector was informed of the steps taken to remedy the conditions to
which attention was drawn, in accordance with statutory requirements. The
whole of the sanitary work in regard to these workshops and workplaces was
satisfactorily completed within a few weeks after the close of the year.
In addition to those brought under the notice of the Sanitary Authority by the
Factory Inspector, some 224 factories, workshops and work places—mostly workshops—were
dealt with during the course of the year. The bakehouses are not
included in the above figures. The defects and insanitary conditions remedied were
similar in character to those referred to in the preceding paragraph. Special attention
was given to cleanliness, air space and ventilation, drainage of floors in cases where
wet processes are carried on, and the provision of suitable and sufficient sanitary
conveniences.
Altogether, 392 notices were served by the Sanitary Inspectors with respect to 446
factories, workshops and workplaces. In some cases several workshops were
included on a single notice.
