the dwellers in houses infested by these animals. Rats are also carriers of disease.
It is not improbable that they have played a by no means inconsiderable part in
disseminating the poison of the plague which has been active in India and other
parts of the Bast during the past few years.
Statutory notices under the Public Health (Lond.) Act, 1891, and the Metropolis
Local Management Act, were served by order of the Public Health Committee upon
the owners or occupiers of 154 premises.
LEGAL PROCEEDINGS.
For the non-compliance with the requirements of statutory notices, for infringements
of by-laws, and for other offences under the Public Health Act, it was necessary
to institute police-court proceedings in respect to the premises set out below:—
