SANITARY STAFF.
The Sanitary Staff consists of the following officers;—
1. The Medical Officer of Health.
2. The Public Analyst.
3. A Chief Inspector and 3 junior Inspectors.
4. A Clerk and a Messenger.
5. A Disinfecting Officer and 2 assistants.
6. A Mortuary Keeper.
7. A Caretaker in charge of the Shelter.
In February a letter was addressed to the Vestry by the London County Council
on the subject of the adequacy of the sanitary staff of the parish. The question was
dealt with by the public health committee, who recommended the Vestry to appoint
an additional inspector ; the Vestry decided in November that this should be done.
The vacancy caused by the resignation of inspector Stiles was filled by Mr. Firth,
who has had many years experience as a practical plumber. He was appointed by
the Vestry in February.
It was necessary during the latter portion of the year to obtain temporary
assistance from time to time in the work of disinfecting. This was owing partly to
the increased prevalence of infectious disease, and partly to the absence, from illness,
of two of the disinfecting officers. The work of the public health department has
been of an excellent character, and I have to express my satisfaction with the manner
in which the various officers of the department have discharged their duties during
the past year.
I have the honour to be, Gentlemen,
Your obedient servant,
LEWIS T. FRASER BRYETT.
Medical Officer of Health.
