of the Poor-Law surgeons is shown in Table IV. The
figures 435 as representing the number of new fevercases,
must be read with the qualification appended in
a former Report. Under this head are necessarily
ranged many cases of slight febrile disorder, which have
nothing specific about them. The gross number of
cases of sickness of all kinds shews a slight diminution
as against 1857, the numbers being 3271 last year, and
3117 this year.
4 cases of Small-Pox have been sent to the SmallPox
Hospital.
The following is a summary of the cases admitted into the Workhouse during the quarter.
ADMISSIONS to the WORKHOUSE from Sickness. | All Causes. | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
M. | F. | Totals | M. | F. | Totals. | |
January | 38 | 14 | 52 | 91 | 84 | 175 |
February | 27 | 33 | 60 | 89 | 119 | 203 |
March (5 weeks) | 32 | 41 | 73 | 71 | 110 | 181 |
Totals | 97 | 88 | 185 | 251 | 313 | 564 |
Thus about 1 in 3 admissions have sickness for the
immediate cause of seeking refuge in the Workhouse.
