HOME HELP SERVICE
Under Section 29 of the National Health Service Act 1946,
the Local Health Authority may make arrangements for providing
Home Help in households where such assistance is required owing
to the presence of any person who is ill, lying in, an expectant
mother, aged, or a child not over compulsory school age within
the meaning of the Education Act 1944.
The following is a summary of the cases in which assistance
was given between January 1st and December 31st, 1967.

Family Care Service
39 cases, involving 122 children, received assistance.
Family Welfare Service
3 cases received assistance in 1967.
Night and Evening Service
5 cases received assistance during the year.
It will be seen that home help was supplied in 3,015 homes
during the year 1967.
In Service Training
The Annual Week-end School of the Institute of Home Help
Organisers at Scarborough was attended by the Deputy Senior
Home Help Organiser, and a course of lectures by Geriatric
Consultants on the problems of the aged and chronic sick was
attended by most of the organising staff.
Training provided by Home Help Organisers
Student Health Visitors, Nurses, Social Welfare and Children's
Officers have been out with the Home Help Organisers as required
by their Training Bodies, to enable them to see the work of the
Home Help Service. Short lectures have also been given by the
Senior Organisers to these students, outlining the work of the
section and giving opportunities for any queries on the service
to be answered.
