MEDICAL LOAN DEPOTS.
The British Red Cross Society have continued their medical
loan depot at 34a. Market Square, where they keep a full range of
nursing requisites which are available to Bromley residents upon
request. Where the circumstances of the applicant permit, a small
charge is made for the loan of such articles.
OLD PEOPLE'S HOMES.
Reports received on the various homes run by voluntary
associations and public authorities are as follow :—
"Greenhill," Oaklands Road, Bromley.
This Home is run by the Brook Lane Medical Mission. The
Home has been full throughout the year. It has twenty-two beds,
occupied by frail and infirm elderly ladies, who are in need of some
care and attention. During 1954. two of the residents died, and
two were transferred to Dunoran Home, owing to their increasing
illness. Four new residents were admitted in their places. One
resident, if spared, will reach the age of one hundred years in
September. 1955.
During the year friends again kindly invited the old people to
their homes and gardens, and several coach outings were arranged
for the old ladies.
"Dunoran," Park Farm Road, Bickley.
This Home is run by the Bermondsey and Southwark Group
Hospital Management Committee, and I am indebted to the
Medical Superintendent for the following report:—
" During the year 1954. 78 patients were admitted to
" Dunoran," 52 discharged and 26 died. The Home continues to
admit dying and chronic patients and where possible priority is
given to those under 40. but owing to the proximity of our Homes
in Bromley we have of necessity had to admit some of their patients
when they were too ill to be removed to Bermondsey. Great help
has been given by voluntary organisations ; the Red Cross supply
a library, and the W.V.S. an excellent shop. Some friends are
hoping to raise enough money to buy a car to be used for this and
other Homes so that the patients may be able to be taken out for a
change."
" Homefield " and " Elmwood," Southborough Road, Bickley.
These Homes are run by the Bermondsey Medical Mission,
and the Matron and Warden have kindly furnished the reports:—
" Elmwood." The new wing was opened in December. 1953,
and the Home now takes 24 inmates. Of these, most are very
elderly, but there are a few younger chronic cases. Outings are
