grateful we are to them all, for it has added much work to their
already arduous duties.
The Dental Services, owing to the shortage of Dental Officers,
have not been able to function fully throughout the year. We
have not been able to overcome the heavy arrears of the past
few years, and as yet are not able to carry out the routine inspections
so necessary to a complete service. The main burden has
fallen upon Mr. Mayo, for whose services no praise is too high,
and it is with regret we learn that he will be leaving us in the
near future.
The change in school nursing staff, who are also Health
Visitors, through retirement and through changes in County
Services has in a small way interfered with the smooth flow of
the work. Too frequent changes of staff are to be avoided if
possible, for it takes time to develop that confidence of the parent
which is so necessary to a successful service.
In the body of the report, which is mainly statistical, will be
found reports on the various services and on the School Meals
Service and Physical Training, two ancillary services which are
doing so much for the well-being of the school child in Bromley.
I would not end this introduction without recording the
excellent work of all the school medical staff, the School Nurses,
and the clerical staff, who have all carried out their duties
throughout the year with untiring zeal, and of Mr. Judd, who
has been responsible for the compilation of the statistical tables
