The same type of damage accounted for the majority of the
4,049½ lbs. of sugar and sweets which were surrendered.
At the other extreme, the abnormally hot, dry summer
brought the quantity of fresh and dried fish and also meat,
poultry and rabbits to an abnormally high level.
It was also noted that the total of 2,382i lbs. of fresh and
dried fruits included a large proportion of citrous fruits,
particularly oranges, which were in an over-ripe condition.
