OLD PEOPLE S HOMES.
There are five homes within the Borough which are run by
Voluntary Associations and public authorities for the care of old
people.
Details of these homes and their activities are as follows:—
"The Vane," 12, Denbridge Road, Bickley.
This Home is provided by the London County Council for
bombed-out aged Londoners and returning evacuees, repatriated
aged British subjects, and a few cases maintained under Poor
Law Acts and Orders.
There are 29 beds (4 for men, 25 for women), and on 1st
January, 1947, there were 22 residents. There were 24 admissions
and 19 discharges during the year.
The London County Council or the Ministry of Health accept
liability for the cost of maintenance of residents.
"Armstrong House," 1, Southlands Grove, Bickley.
This Home is part of the activities of the Save Our Souls
Society of 24, Ashburn Place, S.W.7, and accommodates old age
pensioners who are in receipt of either partial or whole supplementary
pensions.
There are 30 beds, all of which were occupied at the end of
the year, and residents are admitted from Assistance Boards,
Welfare Associations, or by direct application to the Matron.
Residents contribute 32s. per week from their total pension
of 37s. towards the cost of their full board, lodging and maintenance.
" Merevale," Bickley Park Road, Bickley.
The North-West Kent Housing Society opened this Home,
which accommodates 30 residents, in December, 1947, and there
were 6 residents at the end of the year. Applicants are admitted
by the decision of the House Committee, and must be aged
persons capable of taking care of themselves.
