The Registrar General's estimate of the population (mid1947)
is 62,640, an increase of 2,100 on the corresponding figure
for 1946.
The natural increase (excess of live births over deaths)
accounts for 577 of this figure, and the fact that the present
estimated population of the Borough is the highest yet recorded,
shows, in addition to the trend of movement of the population of
London to its outer suburbs, the urgency of the need for
increased housing facilities.
