During 1936 the number of animals known to have
been killed were 3,078,. and of this number 3,072 of the
carcases were inspected by the Sanitary Inspectors. Thus
99.8 per cent. of carcases were examined, and this shows
that our endeavour to inspect meat before it reaches the
purchasing public has been successful. It is interesting
to note there were no cows killed by the butchers for
human consumption during 1936.
In addition to the above-mentioned particulars,
carcases coming into the district from other areas are
inspected at the routine visits to local butchers' shops.
The continued cordial co-operation between the local
butchers and the Department results in the attainment of
a very high standard of meat sold to the public in
Bromley.
The Local Authority granted 24 licences to slaughtermen
during 1936 under the provisions of the Slaughter of
Animals Act, 1933.
