Physical Training.
A joint scheme of physical training was established in
1936 for the areas of Beckenham, Bromley, Erith,
Gravesend and Penge, and Mr. G. H. Atkinson and Miss
I. C. MacLennan have been appointed Organisers of
Physical Training. A joint Committee of representatives
from the Education Authorities of the areas are responsible
for the administration of the scheme so far as matters cf
general policy and co-ordination are concerned. Each
individual Authority is responsible for the control and
organisation of the work of the organisers in its area.
The ordinary routine administration work is done at the
offices of the Bromley Education Committee.
I had hoped in this report to be in a position to
discuss in some detail the effects of the scheme, but the
organisers did not commence duties until towards the close
of the year, and, therefore, it would not be practicable to
attempt to examine the effects until the scheme has had
ample time to function.
With physical training there must be adequate
nourishment, for without an adequate dietary, physical
training cannot be fully beneficial, in fact it may in
certain cases be detrimental to the under-nourished child,
causing undue physical and mental fatigue. Much
