Meat.
There are five registered slaughter-houses and three
licenced slaughter-houses which undergo regular visitation
by the inspectors. During 1935 the number of animals
known to have been slaughtered within the Borough was
3,012, and of this number 2,988 of the carcases were viewed
by the inspectors. Thus 98.8 per cent, of carcases were
examined before reaching the purchasing public.
In addition to the above inspections 87 carcases
coming into the district from other areas were inspected.
This work is mostly done at the request of local butchers.
It is pleasing to record that cordial co-operation exists
between the local butchers and the Department, and has
proved on many occasions to be exceedingly helpful to all
concerned.
The Local Authority granted 22 licences to slaughtermen
during 1935, under the provisions of the Slaughter of
Animals Act, 1933.
