Hygiene of Schools.
A special sanitary survey of the Council Schools was
made during the year with special reference to the type
of sanitary conveniences. It is pleasing to note that the
Committee has agreed upon a programme of converting all
trough closets into modern and better sanitary fittings.
It is obvious that if hygienic principles are to be taught
to children at school, the best lesson is the practical
demonstration of a sanitary environment. This is
apparent when one enters such a School as at Princes
Plain (built in 1933) where even the children themselves
take pride in their surroundings.
The following is a list of improvements carried out
in 1934:—
Valley Council Schools.—Indoor W.C. accommodation
provided for the Staff.
Raglan Road Council Schools.—Sanitary arrangements
improved by replacement of previous
facilities with the provision of 43 new W.C.s,
three urinal slabs, 24 trapped hand basins, three
vertical jet drinking fountains, one indoor staff
cloakroom and W.C., and drinking water in all
departments direct from the main.
Central Schools.—One additional vertical jet
drinking fountain provided.
Mason's Hill C. of E. Schools.—One range of new
W.C.s provided.
Bickley and Widmore C. of E. Schools.—Heating
and lighting arrangements improved by the
provision of three slow combustion stoves, and
additional lighting points.
Addison Road C. of E. Schools.—One additional
urinal slab and two W.C.s provided.
