unattended at home, or go with the parents to the pictures
and other places of amusement. The problem is a social
one.
The scheme of distribution of milk in schools
continued to work smoothly, due entirely to the goodwill
of the Head Teachers and the persons concerned in the
distribution. All schools in Bromley have this scheme in
routine working order, except at the Central School where
the Head Teacher reports that he is unable to co-operate
without additional staffing for the purpose. In the case
of the necessitous family who by ill-chance is not able to
provide the 2id. weekly per child for the supply of milk
in the school, and the child in consequence is certified as
suffering ill-nourishment, it is referred by me to the
Children's Care Committee and the milk is provided
through them. The scheme works well and without
difficulty.
As statistics indicate to some extent the work of the
School Medical Service, I am here summarising the work
carried out during 1934. The work is heavy, and I am
indebted to all members of the staff of the Department for
their enthusiasm and efficiency. At the same time I
would like to record my appreciation of the interest and
help I have received from the Committee and the
co-operation of Head Teachers and Voluntary Workers at
the Clinics to whom no praise can be too great.
