The report of the Surgeon, Mr. H. J. Seddon, on
those cases referred by him to hospital is as follows:
"P.I. was admitted on 27/1/1933 with arthritis of
the left hip. Since admission X-rays have been taken at
regular intervals and there is now 110 doubt that we are
dealing with a definitely tuberculous lesion. This means
that treatment will have to be continued for at least
another year.
"T.W. was admitted 011 25/5/1933 with tuberculosis
of the right hip. The disease is almost quiescent, but as
there is a persistent tendency for the hip to go into a
vicious position (and so make walking difficult) an
operation will have to be performed to fix the joint in a
useful position. We hope to do this shortly.
" F.G., who has formerly been under our care with
tuberculosis of the spine, was re-admitted on 14/6/1933,
with pain in the hip. We could find no definite signs of
hip disease, and his symptoms cleared up within a few
weeks. As his general condition was unsatisfactory and
his home conditions still worse he remained with us until
3/11/1933. At the time of his discharge he was to all
intents a thoroughly fit child.
"F.H. presented unmistakable signs of a dislocated
cartilage in the left knee and was admitted for operation
on 6/7/1933. However, all signs of trouble in the knee
rapidly subsided shortly after admission and it was finally
decided to postpone operation until such time as further
symptoms developed. He was discharged on 21/7/1933.
M.B. was admitted on 1/9/1933 with Perthe's
disease of the left hip. She is making excellent progress
and we are reasonably certain that by the end of 1934 the
hip will be normal again and that she will walk perfectly.
"E.W. was admitted on 11/8/1933 for operative
correction of a wry-neck. A subcutaneous operation (i.e.,
division of the tendon without any external scar being
produced) was performed and the immediate result was
excellent. She was discharged 011 22/9/1933 and is
attending the Clinic for the all important after treatment.
