During 1947, 30 permanent houses were completed by the
Council and 28 houses and 18 flats were in course of construction
at the end of the year. 25 flats were provided by private enterprise
during the year, and 17 houses and 6 flats rebuilt after bombing.
During the year also, 91 prefabricated houses were erected,
making with the 75 erected in 1946 a total of 166 prefabricated
houses.

From the above tables it will be observed that a great deal of
work is still carried out in connection with the repair and maintenance
of dwelling houses in the district, although owing to the general
shortage of materials and the necessity to obtain licences for work
over £10 per annum, it is increasingly difficult to get such work done,
and there is a much greater lapse of time between the discovery of
defects and their ultimate remedy.
